WhatsApp’s new privacy policy and usage guidelines have given rise to the growth of perennial second-place Telegram. The controversy has taken over social media and the two apps have been exchanging barbs on Twitter.
With the announcement of the changes, the Russian app, which has grown at least 40% per year since August 2013 when it was created, had the incredible feat of being the most downloaded in the world in January of this year, with more than 63 million downloads.
Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, attributes this growth to the consistency of the application, taking the opportunity to provoke the competitor, when he declares the constant defense of the privacy of its users, the quality and the set of features offered.
Since WhatsApp announced the change in its privacy policy, excluding from the document what did not allow the exchange of data with Facebook, its users have been harshly criticizing the action.
Despite all attempts at explanations, and despite the fact that this has been happening in practice since 2016, the application was forced to postpone its implementation several times due to the negative reaction, which only happened now on May 15th.
With so much dissatisfaction, Telegram begins to gain ground and attract new users.
